Runs very small, not true to size

I wear a size 8 and since these are walking shoe and I plan to wear them with heavy socks, I ordered an 8.5. They were way too small. I couldn't even get my foot in them! When I measured them next to other flat walking shoes and Loafers, they measured an inch smaller. They are great shoes, well made, but do yourself a favor and order a whole size up from what you normally order!
