This superior Knife Sharpening Rod 32547-232 will sharpen even the dullest knives! Even the best knife will lose its initial sharpness during the course of time, so this sharpener will make this task seem easy. Simply hold the honing rod vertically with the tip resting firmly on a cutting board or out in front of you at a safe distance. Place the heel of the knife blade against the top of the rod. Angle the blade to roughly 15 to 20 degrees. Using light pressure (let the weight of the knife do most of the work), pull the blade down and across the rod from the heel to the tip in a smooth, continuous sweeping motion. Repeat the motion on the opposite side of the blade. Wipe the knife blade clean with a damp cloth or paper towel
