Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel, Mary Anne, work together to dig deep canals for boats, cut mountain passes for trains, and hollow out cellars for city skyscrapers. However, new machines come along and soon the two are out of work. Mike has one last chance to prove what Mary Anne is capable of in order to save her from the scrap heap. This is a great story to teach children about hard work and friendship.
