The photographs are arranged in seasons, beginning with spring, moving through summer and fall, and concluding with winter. The book covers many aspects of the agricultural lifestyle of the Old Order Amish and Mennonites, focusing on farm work but also including school and recreation. While most of the photos were taken in Lancaster County, PA, Leroy Martin also included some from similar Plain communities in other parts of Pennsylvania, in Ohio, and in upstate New York. Taken as a whole, it is a testament to the beautiful setting in which many Old Order Mennonites and Amish live and work.
